Osmo Wood Putty 7350 for wooden floors and parquet

Osmo Wood Putty 7350 Clear is a clear polymer dispersion for filling small fixed joints, cracks and minor damage in sanded wooden flooring and parquet. It is mixed with clean sanding dust, preferably obtained from the same floor. This produces a filling compound with a colour that closely matches the surrounding wood.

This product is not a ready-mixed flexible gap sealant. It is a professional mixing solution used with clean sanding dust to create a smooth, spreadable wood-filling paste.

Suitable for

• Fixed joints smaller than 2 mm

• Small cracks in wooden flooring and parquet

• Screw holes and minor localised damage

• Wooden floors sanded back to bare wood

• Different wood species, subject to a trial application

Not suitable for

Osmo Wood Putty 7350 is not suitable for flexible or moving floor constructions. Do not use it for:

• Moving plank floors

• Sprung floors

• Loose floorboards

• Floors installed on flexible joists or subfloors

• Cork flooring

• Expansion joints or other joints designed to accommodate movement

Natural movement in these constructions may cause a rigid filling compound to crack or come loose.

Preparing the wooden floor

Professionally sand the floor back to clean, untreated wood. The surface must be clean, dry and completely free from oil, grease, old finishes and other contamination.

Complete the final sanding stage before filling with a belt sander using approximately P80 grit. Edges can be sanded with a suitable edge sander using approximately P60 grit. Thoroughly vacuum the entire floor afterwards.

Only use clean sanding dust that does not contain remnants of old oil, lacquer or wax finishes. Ensure that the dust is also free from metal particles originating from nails or other objects, as these may cause rust marks.

Mixing with sanding dust

Stir Osmo Wood Putty thoroughly before use to incorporate any settled material.

Mix the product in a separate clean container with fine, clean sanding dust. Whenever possible, use sanding dust from the same wood species with a grit size of approximately 80–120. Add approximately 15% sanding dust by weight and mix until a smooth, easily spreadable paste is obtained.

The correct consistency is important:

• A mixture that is too thick may not adhere properly to the sides of the joint and could be pulled out during sanding.

• A mixture that is too thin may leave holes or incompletely filled joints.

• Fibrous sanding dust, especially from certain tropical wood species, may require a smaller quantity of dust.

Always prepare and test a small quantity first.

Application

Spread the prepared paste diagonally across the floor with a rust-free double-blade scraper or another suitable stainless-steel floor scraper. Press the compound firmly into the joints and damaged areas.

Repeat the process where necessary if a joint has not been completely filled. Always use rust-free tools to prevent discolouration or rust marks.

Drying and sanding

Under normal conditions, the compound dries in approximately 30–40 minutes. Before sanding, normally allow approximately 30–60 minutes and check that the material is completely dry.

Lower temperatures, higher humidity, wider joints and insufficient ventilation may extend the drying time.

If necessary, sand the dried compound first with P80 grit and finish with P100–120. In many situations, fine sanding with P100–120 is sufficient. Make sure no putty residue remains on the wooden surface.

Finishing the floor

Remove all sanding dust before applying the finish. The floor can then be treated with a suitable Osmo oil-wax system, such as Osmo Polyx-Oil. Select a finish appropriate for the wood species, required appearance and intended use of the floor.

Cleaning tools and storage

Clean buckets, scrapers and other tools immediately after use with soap and water. Dried residues are more difficult to remove.

Keep the container tightly closed and protect the product against frost and temperatures above 30°C. It can be stored for at least twelve months in its unopened original container.

Important information

The final result depends on the wood species, sanding dust, joint width and mixing ratio. Always carry out a trial application on an inconspicuous area first.
