Osmo Polyx-Oil Original 3062 Clear Matt
Osmo Polyx-Oil Original 3062 protects interior wooden floors, stairs and furniture with a matt finish. It is intended for customers who want the natural character of the timber without a clearly satin or glossy reflection.
Although the product is clear, the oil will normally deepen and warm the natural tone of the wood. The grain and colour variation become more visible. The 3062 designation therefore describes the sheen rather than an untreated colour effect.
When should you choose 3062 Matt?
Choose this option when a quiet surface with very little visible shine is preferred. The matt appearance works particularly well in modern interiors, on wide plank floors and wherever the timber should remain visually understated.
Suitable applications include:
-
Solid wood and plank floors
-
Parquet and suitable engineered flooring
-
Wooden stairs and landings
-
Furniture and interior woodwork
-
OSB boards
-
Suitable cork flooring and cork surfaces
Untreated or completely sanded timber normally requires two extremely thin coats.
Matt does not mean untreated in colour
3062 contains no colour pigment, but it will normally make timber appear warmer and richer. On oak, the grain and natural tonal variation become more pronounced. Very pale species may look slightly darker or more golden.
If the goal is to retain both a low sheen and the pale colour of freshly sanded timber, prepare comparison samples with 3041 Natural or 3044 Raw.
Always test on the same timber using the same sanding method intended for the complete surface.
Important information for dark timber
The matt effect is produced partly by fine matting components. On dark timber, smoked oak or a dark coloured base coat, these components can occasionally become visible as a pale, powdery or cloudy haze.
Do not use 3062 on dark timber or dark colour treatments without a trial application. If a restrained sheen is required without the increased risk of a pale haze, 3065 Semi-Matt may be a more suitable option.
Do not use 3062 as the clear finishing coat over a white treatment. Select an appropriate white-pigmented finish to reduce unwanted yellowing.
Stir thoroughly from the bottom
The matting components can settle at the bottom of the tin during storage. Stir thoroughly before and during application using a flat implement that reaches the base of the container.
Briefly stirring only the upper part of the product is insufficient. Unevenly distributed matting material can create different sheen levels or cloudy patches across the same floor.
For large areas, combine containers of the same product in a clean working bucket and mix them carefully before starting. This also reduces the chance of slight variation between tins.
Surface preparation
The timber must be clean, dry and evenly sanded. Completely remove lacquer, paint and other closed coatings.
An existing oil finish may remain only when it is clean, stable and suitable for recoating with Polyx-Oil. Carry out an adhesion trial if there is any uncertainty.
Repair damage and open joints before the final sanding stage. As a practical guideline, wooden flooring can be finished at approximately P120–P150.
Use the same final sanding grade throughout. Differences in sanding affect absorption and may remain visible after treatment. Remove every trace of dust with a powerful vacuum cleaner.
Wood moisture must not exceed 18%. Maintain good ventilation and a normal working temperature.
Applying Polyx-Oil 3062
The product is ready to use and must not be diluted.
Apply the first coat extremely thinly and evenly in the direction of the wood grain. We recommend the professional rollers, oil applicators and brushes shown as related products at the bottom of this page.
These tools are selected to spread a controlled quantity of oil. An unsuitable roller can deposit too much product, resulting in lines, cloudy areas, variations in sheen or delayed drying.
Inspect each completed section from several directions. Redistribute wet edges and accumulations immediately and avoid repeatedly starting or stopping the roller in the same position.
Two thin coats
Allow the first coat to dry for approximately 8–10 hours under normal conditions with good ventilation. Stir the product thoroughly again before applying the second coat.
Apply another extremely thin and consistent layer. Two thin coats produce a more even result than one or two heavy coats.
Excessive application can delay drying and may also create a milky or powdery appearance. Do not add extra material to a surface that is already sufficiently wet.
For renovation of an existing and firmly bonded Polyx-Oil finish, one thin coat will normally be sufficient.
Coverage and curing
Estimated coverage is approximately 30 m² per litre per coat on smooth and correctly prepared timber.
Actual consumption depends on:
-
Timber species and absorbency
-
Surface texture
-
Sanding grade
-
Application tools
-
Applied film thickness
Allow approximately 8–10 hours of drying per coat. Low temperatures, high humidity, restricted ventilation and heavy application will extend the drying period.
The finish requires approximately two to three weeks to cure fully. Treat the floor carefully, do not cover it and remove spilled liquids promptly during this period.
Special and tropical timber
On dark, tropical or extractive-rich species, 3062 may react differently or fail to penetrate correctly. Examples include Wenge, Merbau, Teak and Jatoba.
Always carry out a trial application. Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin 1101 may be more suitable for certain tropical species.
Cleaning and maintenance
Regularly remove grit and loose dirt with a soft broom or vacuum cleaner. Use our Eco Multi Cleaner for normal weekly cleaning and clean the floor with a well-wrung, damp mop.
Use Wisch-Fix as supplementary care when the existing oil-and-wax finish needs conditioning. Local dull or lightly worn sections can be refreshed with a suitable maintenance product.
Pay attention to the sheen when choosing maintenance products. An unsuitable wax or excessive material can make a matt floor appear glossier in certain areas. Always test on an inconspicuous section first.

Safety advice
Cloths and pads containing liquid oil can generate heat and ignite. Spread them out completely after use and allow them to dry in a safe place, or store them in a sealed metal container in accordance with the safety instructions.
Always read the current label, technical information and safety information before use. Keep out of reach of children.
