Product description

Osmo Polyx-Oil Rapid 3232 Clear Satin

Osmo Polyx-Oil Rapid 3232 is a fast-drying clear satin oil and wax finish for interior wooden floors and furniture. It combines natural plant oils and waxes with a short drying time and strong, hard-wearing protection.

Under suitable conditions, two thin coats can be applied in one day. This makes 3232 Rapid particularly suitable for projects where a wooden floor needs to be completed quickly.

The satin finish subtly enhances the wood grain. The oils penetrate the wood while the waxes support the surface. The finish remains microporous and will not crack, peel, flake or blister like a closed-film coating.

Suitable applications

Osmo Polyx-Oil Rapid 3232 is suitable for:

  • Solid wood flooring

  • Parquet flooring

  • Plank flooring

  • Engineered flooring with a suitable real-wood wear layer

  • Strip flooring

  • OSB flooring

  • Cork flooring

  • Wooden stairs

  • Solid wooden furniture

  • Other untreated interior wooden surfaces

Always carry out a trial application on unfamiliar wood species, existing finishes and factory-finished flooring.

Not intended for concrete or stone

Polyx-Oil Rapid 3232 is specifically developed for wooden surfaces. Do not use it as a concrete, tile or stone impregnation.

For absorbent interior concrete and stone, use Osmo Concrete Oil 610.

For absorbent exterior stone and terracotta, use Osmo Stone and Terracotta Oil 620.

Resistance to common liquids

Once fully cured, Osmo Polyx-Oil Rapid is resistant to:

  • Water

  • Wine and beer

  • Cola

  • Coffee and tea

  • Fruit juice

  • Milk

The finish meets DIN 68861-1A/EN 12720 for resistance to these liquids. Nevertheless, spills should be wiped up as soon as possible to avoid prolonged exposure and potential discolouration.

Once dry, the finish is resistant to saliva and perspiration according to DIN 53160 and suitable for children’s toys according to EN 71.3.

Appearance of clear 3232

Although Osmo 3232 is clear, a clear oil does not leave untreated wood completely unchanged.

The oil enhances the natural colour and produces a permanent wet-look effect. Oak and other pale timbers will normally appear warmer and slightly darker.

If you want to retain the pale, untreated appearance of wood as much as possible, choose a suitable Natural or Raw finish and always prepare a trial area first.

Preparing the wood

The wooden surface must be:

  • Clean and completely dry

  • Free from dust, grease and dirt

  • Free from old paint, lacquer and closed-film coatings

  • Frost-free

  • At a maximum moisture content of 18%

Thoroughly clean old microporous oil and hardwax-oil surfaces. Completely remove old paint and lacquer coatings.

Fill small areas of damage, cracks and screw holes with a suitable wood filler. Fixed small joints in parquet may be filled with a compatible sanding-dust joint filler.

Sanding the wood

Sand the complete surface evenly and avoid differences in grit size. Uneven sanding can become visible after oiling as differences in colour or sheen.

For wooden floors, the final sanding stage is normally:

  • P100 for slightly stronger colour enhancement and more surface texture

  • P120 for a calmer and more even appearance

For furniture, use a final sanding grit of approximately P120–180, depending on the wood species and desired appearance.

Thoroughly remove all sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner and suitable dust cloth. Always wear an appropriate dust mask while sanding.

Applying Osmo Polyx-Oil Rapid 3232

Osmo Polyx-Oil Rapid is ready to use and must not be diluted. Stir thoroughly before and during use with a flat stirring stick or spatula.

Apply the first coat very thinly and evenly along the wood grain. Use a suitable microfibre roller, floor brush or flat brush.

For the best result, use the specialist rollers and brushes shown among the related products below. These application tools have been selected to spread the oil in a controlled, thin layer. An unsuitable roller or coarse brush may deposit too much product and cause streaks, uneven sheen and substantially extended drying times.

Spread the oil thoroughly within 10–15 minutes and immediately remove all excess material and accumulations. No thick or visibly wet areas should remain.

Applying the second coat on the same day

Allow the first coat to dry for approximately 4–5 hours under normal conditions with good ventilation.

Only apply the second coat when the first coat feels completely dry across the entire surface. Low temperatures, high humidity, insufficient ventilation or excessive application will substantially extend the drying time.

Apply the second coat equally thinly and evenly. Sanding between coats is normally unnecessary.

Although two coats can be applied in one day under suitable conditions, never apply the second coat over a first coat that is still damp.

Full curing time

The surface can be walked on carefully after drying, but it has not yet fully cured. Complete curing takes approximately 2–3 weeks.

During this curing period:

  • Do not cover the surface with plastic, cardboard or rugs

  • Provide good ventilation

  • Wipe up water and spillages immediately

  • Do not damp mop the floor

  • Avoid heavy use and intensive cleaning

  • Position furniture carefully without dragging it

Wait until the finish has fully cured before placing rugs or other impermeable coverings.

Dark and extractive-rich hardwoods

Standard Polyx-Oil Rapid may be less suitable for dark, extractive-rich hardwoods such as wenge, merbau and jatoba.

For these species, use Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin or carry out an extensive trial application first. Natural wood extractives can influence drying, adhesion and final appearance.

Application on cork

Cork is highly absorbent. Apply Polyx-Oil Rapid especially thinly to cork surfaces.

Allow for a longer drying time of at least 6–8 hours per coat. Always prepare a trial area to assess product consumption and final appearance.

Coverage

One litre of Osmo Polyx-Oil Rapid 3232 covers approximately 24 m² with one thin coat on smooth, planed or carefully sanded wood.

Actual coverage depends on:

  • Wood species

  • Absorbency of the wood

  • Sanding preparation

  • Condition of the surface

  • Application method

  • Applied film thickness

Rough, highly absorbent or coarsely sanded wood requires more product.

Cleaning and maintenance

Regularly remove dust and loose dirt with a soft broom, vacuum cleaner or suitable dust mop.

For regular weekly hygienic cleaning, use our Eco Multi Cleaner. Damp mop the floor and never leave standing water on the wood.

Use Osmo Wash and Care additionally when the oil and wax finish requires care and conditioning. It should not replace regular hygienic cleaning.

For periodic refreshing, local marks and light wear, use Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner 3029.

When visible wear develops, thoroughly clean the surface and apply one very thin maintenance coat of Polyx-Oil Rapid. One coat is normally sufficient when renovating an intact, previously oiled surface.

Cleaning tools and working safely

Clean brushes, rollers and other tools immediately after use with Osmo Brush Cleaner and Thinner.

The liquid and vapour are flammable. Keep away from heat, sparks and open flames. Do not smoke during application.

Cloths and pads saturated with liquid oil may generate heat and ignite spontaneously. Lay them flat outdoors to dry completely or place them immediately in a suitable airtight metal container.

Keep out of reach of children and provide good ventilation during application and drying.
