Product description

Osmo Wood Wax Finish Transparent

Osmo Wood Wax Finish Transparent is a coloured interior wood finish based on natural oils and waxes. It colours and protects the wood while allowing the natural grain to remain visible when applied as a thin transparent coat.

It is suitable for furniture, doors, wall and ceiling panelling, mouldings, beams, children’s toys, glued wood, chipboard and MDF. On wooden flooring, it can be used as a coloured base coat and must be protected with the correct Polyx-Oil top coat after it has dried completely.

The treated surface is water and dirt repellent, hardwearing and resistant to common spillages including water, coffee, tea, juice, cola, beer and wine. Its microporous finish remains breathable and does not crack, peel or flake when correctly applied.

Important information for wooden flooring

Apply no more than one thin coat of Osmo Wood Wax Finish to wooden flooring. Allow the coloured coat to dry for approximately 24 hours and then apply one thin top coat of clear Osmo Polyx-Oil, such as 3032, 3062 or another suitable clear version.

When colouring a floor with Wood Wax Finish 3111 White, we recommend Osmo Polyx-Oil Tints 3040 White as the top coat. This helps retain the light appearance and reduces unwanted yellowing.

Do not apply two coloured coats of Wood Wax Finish to flooring. One coloured base coat followed by one suitable Polyx-Oil top coat provides the required hardwearing floor protection.

Furniture, doors and other interior wood

Apply one very thin coat for a transparent colour effect. For a stronger colour on furniture, doors, wall panelling and other non-flooring interior wood, a second thin coat may be applied after the first coat has dried completely.

The final colour and level of opacity depend on the selected colour, wood species, sanding sequence and amount applied. Always prepare a trial application on the same type of wood first.

Apply no more than one very thin coat to the inside of cupboards and drawers using a lint-free cloth.

Surface preparation

The wood must be clean, dry, frost-free and free from dust, grease and old sealed coatings. The maximum wood moisture content is 18%.

Completely remove old paint and lacquer coatings. Thoroughly clean existing microporous finishes. Fill cracks, holes and damaged areas with a suitable wood filler.

Sand the surface evenly. For a calm and even colour on flooring, a consistent final sanding grade of approximately P120–P150 is important. Coarser sanding absorbs more pigment and may produce a stronger or less even appearance.

Remove all sanding dust thoroughly with a vacuum cleaner. Stir the contents thoroughly before and during application to distribute the pigments and other ingredients evenly. Wood Wax Finish is ready to use and must not be thinned.

Applying Osmo Wood Wax Finish

Apply the product very thinly and evenly in the direction of the wood grain. Always use a suitable oil or lacquer roller, flat brush, application pad or lint-free cotton cloth.

For the best result, use our specialist rollers, brushes and application materials shown as related products at the bottom of this product page. An unsuitable or overly coarse roller may apply too much product and cause streaks, overlaps or colour differences.

For a subtle stained effect, apply a small amount and wipe the surface evenly within approximately 20 minutes using a lint-free cloth or suitable pad.

On larger surfaces, the product can be distributed thinly with a suitable scraper and then worked evenly into the wood with a white or beige pad.

Allow each coat to dry for approximately 24 hours and provide good ventilation. Lower temperatures, high humidity, insufficient ventilation or excessive application will extend the drying time.

Coverage and curing

One litre covers approximately 24 m² with one thin coat on smooth, planed or carefully sanded wood. Rough, highly absorbent or structured wood may require considerably more product.

The surface is normally dry enough for the next treatment after approximately 24 hours. A treated floor requires approximately 2–3 weeks to cure fully. Treat the surface carefully during this period and remove spillages immediately.

Choosing a colour

The final colour may differ from its appearance on a screen or printed colour chart. The wood species, natural substrate colour, sanding grade and applied quantity all influence the result.

Choose a colour that is close to the natural wood tone or slightly darker whenever possible. Always prepare a trial application with the selected colour.

Dark and ingredient-rich wood species

Absorption and drying may differ on dark, oily or ingredient-rich hardwoods such as wenge, merbau and mahogany. Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin 1101 may be more suitable for these wood species.

Always prepare a trial application on unfamiliar or ingredient-rich wood.

Safe handling

Cloths and pads saturated with liquid oil or wax may ignite due to spontaneous combustion. Spread used materials out completely and allow them to dry outdoors, or store and dispose of them in accordance with the product safety information in a suitable metal container.

Keep the product out of reach of children and always read the label and current technical product information before use.
