Osmo Anti-Slip Decking Oil 430 for exterior timber
Osmo Anti-Slip Decking Oil 430 is a clear finishing oil for wooden decking and exterior steps previously treated with a suitable coloured Osmo Decking Oil. Its specialised organic anti-slip additive improves the slip resistance of the dried coating.
The water-repellent satin top coat leaves the wood texture visible. Its microporous structure allows moisture exchange, while film protection helps protect the coating against mould and algae.

Osmo Anti-Slip Decking Oil 430 – Clear Satin
Choose your required container size from the product options. The final appearance depends partly on the timber species and the coloured oil underneath. Clear oil can deepen the natural colour of the wood.
Apply over a coloured base coat
Use 430 as a finishing coat over a suitable coloured Osmo Decking Oil. The manufacturer also lists compatible coloured Osmo Exterior Oil Woodstain as a possible base treatment.
Clear Anti-Slip Decking Oil provides only limited protection against sunlight-induced greying on its own. The pigmented base coat is therefore an important part of the treatment.
Do not use 430 as the sole treatment on bare timber. Allow the coloured base coat to dry according to its own application instructions before continuing.
Suitable applications
-
Wooden decking and terraces.
-
Exterior wooden stairs and steps.
-
Smooth, grooved and ribbed decking boards.
-
Correctly prepared decking timber, including bangkirai, massaranduba, garapa, larch, Douglas fir and pine.
Match the preparation and coloured base oil to the timber species. Always carry out a trial application first.
Surface preparation
The surface must be clean, dry and frost-free. Timber moisture content must not exceed 18%.
Thoroughly clean a suitable existing oil finish. Remove greying and contamination before recoating, then allow the timber to dry completely. Remove old varnishes and unsuitable paint coatings.
Stir thoroughly before application. The product is ready to use and must not be thinned.
Application
-
Check that the coloured base coat has dried sufficiently.
-
Apply one thin coat of 430 with a suitable brush or decking brush.
-
Work along the grain and distribute the oil evenly.
-
Spread out any accumulations and allow to dry with good ventilation.
A heavy coat does not improve the treatment. Excessive application can restrict moisture exchange and cause problems with the finish.
Drying time and coverage
-
Drying time: approximately 12 hours at 20–23°C and 50–65% relative humidity, with adequate ventilation.
-
Coverage: approximately 24 m² per litre for one coat on smooth timber.
-
Application: one finishing coat over a suitable coloured base coat.
Lower temperatures and higher humidity extend drying times. Rough or absorbent timber may require more product.
Maintaining the anti-slip finish
Keep the decking free from dirt and surface deposits. Check heavily used areas regularly, as wear can reduce slip resistance.
A sound, compatible finish can normally be refreshed with one thin maintenance coat after cleaning and drying. Greyed or severely weathered timber first requires restoration of the surface and the appropriate base treatment.
An anti-slip finish cannot prevent slipping in every situation.
Safe handling
Follow the product label and safety data sheet. The product contains a film-protection ingredient that may cause an allergic reaction. Avoid release to the environment; it is harmful to aquatic life with long-lasting effects.
Oil-soaked cloths and pads may self-ignite through self-heating. Spread used materials out individually and flat until completely dry, then dispose of them according to the product instructions. Keep out of reach of children.
