Osmo Polyx-Oil Original 3065 Clear Semi-Matt
Osmo Polyx-Oil Original 3065 is a clear treatment for interior wooden floors, stairs and furniture. Its semi-matt sheen provides a calm, natural appearance without making the surface look completely flat.
This version sits between 3032 Clear Satin and 3062 Clear Matt. It reflects a restrained amount of light and is therefore less glossy than a traditional satin floor finish.
Although the product contains no colour pigment, it deepens the natural tone of the timber and makes the grain more visible. Treated wood will normally appear warmer and richer than untreated or freshly sanded timber.
Why choose 3065 Semi-Matt?
Semi-matt is a practical option for customers who do not want a pronounced shine but also prefer the floor not to appear completely matt. The controlled reflection gives the timber a cared-for appearance while retaining its natural variation.
It can be used on:
-
Solid wooden floors
-
Parquet and plank flooring
-
Suitable engineered wooden floors
-
Wooden stairs and landings
-
Furniture and interior woodwork
-
OSB boards
-
Suitable cork surfaces
Untreated or completely sanded timber normally requires two extremely thin coats.
Comparing the clear sheen levels
Choose the finish that best suits the intended appearance:
-
3011 Gloss: the most reflective clear option
-
3032 Satin: a visibly warm satin sheen
-
3065 Semi-Matt: controlled reflection with a quieter appearance
-
3062 Matt: minimal visible shine
The appearance of a floor can change gradually through use and maintenance. Heavily walked areas may develop differently from sections that receive little traffic. Consistent cleaning and maintenance help reduce these variations.
How the clear finish affects timber colour
3065 does not add pigment, but it does alter the visual depth of the wood. The natural colour becomes warmer and more pronounced, with the exact result depending on the timber species.
On oak, the grain and colour variation normally become more visible. Very pale woods may take on a warmer or slightly more golden tone. To retain a paler, almost freshly sanded appearance, also test 3041 Natural or 3044 Raw.
Always prepare a sample on the same timber, sanded in the same way as the final surface.
Surface preparation
The wood must be clean, dry and evenly sanded. Completely remove old lacquer, paint and other closed coatings.
An existing oil finish does not automatically need to be removed in full. It must, however, be clean, firmly bonded and compatible with the new treatment. Prepare a trial area if there is any doubt.
Inspect the timber for damage, adhesive residue and open joints. Complete all repairs before the final sanding stage.
As a practical guideline, finish sanding wooden floors at approximately P120–P150. Use the same final sanding grade over the entire area. Inconsistent sanding may create visible differences in colour and sheen after oiling.
Remove all sanding dust with a powerful vacuum cleaner. Wood moisture must not exceed 18%.
Apply with our specialist rollers and brushes
Stir the product thoroughly before and during use. Polyx-Oil 3065 is ready to use and must not be diluted.
Apply the first coat extremely thinly and evenly in the direction of the grain. We recommend using the professional rollers, oil applicators and brushes shown as related products at the bottom of this page.
Our tools are selected to distribute a small quantity of oil in a controlled manner. An unsuitable or coarse roller can deposit too much product, causing visible lines, differences in sheen, tacky areas and greatly increased drying times.
Work in manageable sections and do not leave wet edges or accumulated oil behind. Inspect the surface from several directions before continuing.
Second coat and drying time
Allow the first coat to dry for approximately 8–10 hours under normal conditions with good ventilation. Then apply a second extremely thin coat.
More oil does not automatically create better protection. Two thin and consistent coats dry more effectively and produce a more even result than coats applied too heavily.
When renovating an existing Polyx-Oil finish, one thin coat may be sufficient. Clean the floor thoroughly and confirm that the existing treatment remains firmly bonded before recoating.
Coverage and curing
Estimated coverage is approximately 30 m² per litre per coat on smooth and correctly prepared timber.
Actual consumption depends on:
-
Timber species and absorbency
-
Surface texture
-
Sanding grade
-
Application tools
-
Applied film thickness
Drying time is approximately 8–10 hours per coat. Low temperatures, high humidity, restricted ventilation and heavy application will extend this period.
The finish requires approximately two to three weeks to cure fully. Treat the floor carefully during this time, do not cover it with plastic or rugs and remove moisture promptly.
Special timber species
On dark, exotic or extractive-rich timber, the oil may penetrate or dry differently. Examples include Wenge, Merbau and Jatoba.
Always carry out a trial application. Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin 1101 may be more suitable for certain tropical species.
Cleaning and maintenance
Regularly remove sand and loose dirt with a soft broom or vacuum cleaner. Use our Eco Multi Cleaner for normal weekly cleaning and clean the floor with a well-wrung, damp mop.
Use Osmo Wisch-Fix as supplementary care when the existing oil-and-wax finish requires conditioning. Osmo Liquid Maintenance Wax 3029 can be used on local dull or lightly worn areas.
Carry out maintenance before the protection has completely worn away. This can prevent the need to sand the entire floor back to bare timber.

Safety advice
Cloths, pads and other absorbent materials containing liquid oil can generate heat and ignite. After use, spread them out completely and allow them to dry in a safe place, or store them in a sealed metal container in accordance with the safety instructions.
Always read the current label, technical information and safety information. Keep out of reach of children.
