Osmo Polyx-Oil Original 3011 Clear Gloss

Osmo Polyx-Oil Original 3011 is the clear option for customers who want their wooden floor or furniture to have a noticeably glossy appearance. It enhances the natural tone and grain without covering the wood with a thick, plastic-looking film.

It can be used on interior wooden floors, parquet, stairs, furniture, OSB and cork. The combination of penetrating oils and protective waxes provides a durable finish while allowing the surface to retain the natural look and feel of wood.

3011 is the gloss version in the clear Polyx-Oil Original range. Choose one of the satin, semi-matt or matt alternatives if a less reflective appearance is preferred.

Why choose the 3011 gloss finish?

A gloss finish reflects more light and gives the wood a rich, polished appearance. It can make the grain, colour variation and character of the timber considerably more visible.

The same reflection may also emphasise sanding marks, uneven absorption and wear. Careful preparation, suitable application tools and extremely thin coats are therefore particularly important with this version.

Always test the product on a small inconspicuous area. Timber species, sanding grade, absorbency and lighting all influence the final result.

Choosing the correct sheen

The four clear Polyx-Oil Original options offer different levels of light reflection:

• 3011 Gloss: the clearest and most reflective sheen

• 3032 Satin: a warmer but less pronounced shine

• 3065 Semi-Matt: a balanced, restrained sheen

• 3062 Matt: minimal visible shine

The main difference is visual. Select the finish that suits the room, expected use and desired appearance.

Surface preparation

The timber must be untreated or completely sanded back, clean and dry. Existing lacquers and other closed coatings must be fully removed. An old oil finish may only remain when it is clean, stable and compatible with the new treatment.

Repair damage and open joints before final sanding. Sand the entire surface evenly and remove every trace of dust with a powerful vacuum cleaner. Scratches, dust and inconsistent sanding can become more visible underneath a glossy finish.

As a practical guide, finish floor sanding at approximately P120–P150. Furniture can normally be sanded more finely. Avoid polishing the wood excessively, as a surface that is too tightly sanded may absorb the oil unevenly.

The moisture content of the wood must not exceed 18%. Provide a normal working temperature and continuous ventilation during application and drying.

Applying Polyx-Oil 3011

Stir thoroughly before and during use. Do not dilute.

Apply the first coat extremely thinly and evenly in the direction of the grain. We recommend using the professional microfibre rollers, oil rollers or brushes shown as related products at the bottom of this page.

Our application tools are selected to distribute hardwax oil in a controlled, thin film. An unsuitable roller may leave too much material on the surface, resulting in roller marks, slow drying or uneven gloss.

Inspect each completed section from several directions. Redistribute pools, heavy edges and wet patches immediately. Hardwax oil should never remain as a thick liquid layer on the timber.

Allow approximately 8–10 hours of drying time with good ventilation. Apply a second very thin coat in the same manner. Do not use the surface while the finish remains soft or tacky.

When renovating an existing and firmly bonded Polyx-Oil surface, one thin maintenance coat may be sufficient. Clean and assess the surface before recoating.

Coverage and drying

The estimated coverage is approximately 30 m² per litre per coat. Actual consumption depends on the timber species, absorbency, surface texture, preparation and application tools.

• Drying time per coat: approximately 8–10 hours

• Coverage: approximately 30 m² per litre per coat

• Full curing: approximately 2–3 weeks

Heavy application, low temperatures or restricted airflow will increase the drying time. Do not cover a newly treated floor with plastic sheeting, cardboard or rugs during curing.

Dark and extractive-rich timber

Standard clear hardwax oil may react differently or penetrate poorly on dark, exotic or extractive-rich timber such as Wenge, Merbau and Jatoba.

Always carry out a test application. A thinner treatment, such as Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin 1101, may be more suitable for certain species.

Cleaning and maintenance

Remove dust and grit with a soft broom or vacuum cleaner. For normal weekly cleaning, use our Eco Multi Cleaner and clean wooden floors with a well-wrung, damp mop—never with excessive water.

Wisch-Fix or a suitable liquid maintenance wax can be used periodically when the existing finish requires additional care. These products supplement normal cleaning rather than replacing it.

Treat local wear before the timber becomes completely exposed.

Safety information

Cloths, pads and other absorbent materials containing liquid oil can generate heat and ignite. After use, spread them out completely and allow them to dry in a safe place, or store them in a sealed metal container in accordance with the safety instructions.
