Osmo Polyx-Oil Original 3011 Clear Gloss

Osmo Polyx-Oil Original 3011 is a clear gloss finish for wooden floors, furniture, stairs and other interior wooden surfaces. Its combination of natural vegetable oils and waxes protects the wood against dirt, moisture and everyday wear while allowing the natural grain and texture to remain visible and tangible.

The oils penetrate the wood while the waxes protect the surface. This creates a durable, water- and dirt-repellent finish that will not crack, flake, blister or peel. Colour 3011 gives the wood a rich, well-maintained appearance with the highest sheen level in the clear Osmo Polyx-Oil Original range.

Please note: clear does not mean invisible. Osmo Polyx-Oil 3011 enhances the natural colour of the wood and produces a slight permanent “wet look”. If you want light oak to retain an appearance closer to untreated wood, choose Osmo Polyx-Oil Effect Natural 3041 or Raw 3044 instead. Always carry out a test application first.

Difference between the sheen levels

Osmo Polyx-Oil Original is available in several clear sheen levels:

• 3011 Clear Gloss: the highest sheen level and a rich appearance

• 3032 Clear Satin: a refined finish with a soft sheen

• 3065 Clear Semi-Matt: a calm finish with a low level of sheen

• 3062 Clear Matt: the most matt version with the least light reflection

The glossy 3011 finish makes the colour and grain of the wood particularly noticeable. Light reflections, signs of use and local variations in sheen may be more visible on a glossy surface than on a matt finish.

Suitable surfaces

Osmo Polyx-Oil Original 3011 is suitable for:

• Solid wooden floors

• Parquet and floorboards

• Country-style and ship-deck flooring

• OSB flooring

• Cork flooring

• Wooden stairs

• Furniture and table tops

• Other interior wooden surfaces

Dark, ingredient-rich hardwoods such as wenge, merbau and jatoba may absorb this product differently. For these woods, we recommend Osmo Clear Wax 1101. Always test the product on unfamiliar wood species or existing finishes.

Use the correct rollers and brushes

Apply Osmo Polyx-Oil very thinly and evenly. Careful and consistent application is particularly important with the glossy 3011 finish, as overlaps and variations in coating thickness may be more visible.

We recommend using the specialist rollers, floor brushes, pads and cloths displayed as related products at the bottom of this page.

Recommended tools include:

• Special oil and hardwax-oil roller

• 25 cm roller with frame

• Mini rollers with frame

• Osmo floor brush

• Special Osmo brushes

• Tisa Line flat brush

• Cotton cloths for removing excess oil

• Rectangular application and polishing pads

Avoid using an unsuitable general-purpose roller. The wrong roller or brush may apply too much product and cause visible overlaps, streaks, uneven sheen or considerably longer drying times.

Surface preparation

The wooden surface must be clean, dry and frost-free. The moisture content of the wood must not exceed 18%.

Osmo Polyx-Oil 3011 is ready to use:

1. Stir thoroughly before and during application.

2. Do not dilute the product.

3. Completely remove old paint and lacquer coatings.

4. Thoroughly clean existing microporous oil finishes.

5. Fill small cracks and holes with a suitable wood filler where necessary.

6. Finish-sand wooden floors with P120–150 grit.

7. Finish-sand furniture with P180–240 grit.

8. Carefully remove all sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner.

Consistent sanding is important for an even sheen. Finish the entire surface using the same final grit. The final appearance depends on the wood species, surface structure, sanding process and quantity applied. Always carry out a test application first.

Applying Osmo Polyx-Oil 3011

Apply the first coat very thinly and evenly in the direction of the wood grain using a suitable roller, floor brush, flat brush or application pad. Spread the product carefully and avoid thick coats, puddles and visible overlaps.

Allow the first coat to dry for approximately 8–10 hours with good ventilation. Then apply a second, equally thin coat.

Two thin coats are normally required on untreated or bare-sanded wood. When renovating an existing Osmo oil finish, one thin coat on a clean, dry and intact surface is usually sufficient.

Complete sanding is often unnecessary during normal maintenance. If the existing finish is damaged, sealed, contaminated or unsuitable for recoating, more extensive preparation will be required.

Coverage and drying time

• Coverage: approximately 24 m² per litre per coat

• Untreated wood: two thin coats

• Renovation: usually one thin coat

• Drying time: approximately 8–10 hours per coat at 23°C and 50% relative humidity

• Fully cured: after approximately 2–3 weeks

Actual coverage depends on the wood species, structure, absorption and preparation. Rough or highly absorbent wood will require more product.

Apply particularly thin coats to cork and allow at least 24 hours of drying time per coat. Applying too much product, insufficient ventilation, low temperatures or high humidity can considerably extend the drying time.

Using 3011 as a clear topcoat

Osmo 3011 Clear Gloss can also be used as a clear protective topcoat over a suitable coloured Osmo finish. Allow the coloured base coat to dry completely before applying one very thin coat of 3011.

Allow approximately 24 hours before applying the clear topcoat over certain coloured Osmo finishes. Always carry out a test application to assess the final colour and sheen.

Use a suitable white-pigmented topcoat on white or white-pigmented surfaces. A completely clear topcoat can make white finishes appear warmer or slightly yellow.

Cleaning and maintenance

Regularly remove sand and loose dirt with a soft broom or vacuum cleaner.

Use our Eco Multi Cleaner with a well-wrung mop for normal weekly cleaning. Use as little water as possible and never allow puddles to remain on the wood.

Use Osmo Wash and Care periodically when the floor requires additional care and nourishment. Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner can be used to refresh dull areas or minor signs of wear.

Do not use aggressive all-purpose cleaners, chlorine, bleach, baking soda or strongly degreasing washing-up liquids. These products may damage or discolour the finish.

Important safety information

Use only in a well-ventilated area and keep out of reach of children. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. Always consult the product label and safety data sheet before use.

Warning: risk of spontaneous combustion. Cloths, pads and other materials soaked with liquid oil must be washed immediately after use or stored in an airtight metal container. Never leave oil-soaked materials crumpled together.
