Product description

Osmo Polyx-Oil Original 3032 Clear Satin

Osmo Polyx-Oil Original 3032 gives wooden floors, stairs and furniture a protective finish with a warm satin sheen. It does not add a separate colour, although it does deepen and enrich the natural tone and grain of the timber.

The sheen sits between gloss and matt. Treated wood reflects a controlled amount of light without appearing highly polished. This makes 3032 a useful choice for customers who want a refined appearance without the stronger reflection of a gloss finish.

The oils penetrate the timber while the wax components contribute to the protection at the surface. The finished wood therefore retains a recognisably natural feel instead of looking as though it has been covered with a thick plastic film.

Suitable wooden surfaces

Polyx-Oil 3032 can be used indoors on:

  • Solid wood and plank flooring

  • Parquet and suitable engineered wooden floors

  • Wooden stairs and landings

  • Furniture and interior woodwork

  • OSB boards

  • Cork floors and other suitable cork surfaces

Untreated timber normally requires two extremely thin coats. When refreshing an existing Polyx-Oil surface that remains sound and firmly bonded, one thin renovation coat may be sufficient.

How does a clear oil affect the wood colour?

Although 3032 is described as clear, the treated timber will not remain exactly as pale as unfinished wood. The oil strengthens the natural tone and gives the surface a warmer, richer appearance.

Oak will normally look deeper and more vivid. Very pale timber may become slightly warmer or more golden. If the intention is to preserve a freshly sanded, pale appearance, consider a lightly pigmented option such as 3041 Natural or 3044 Raw instead.

Always prepare a test area. Timber species, sanding, absorbency and surrounding light all affect the final appearance.

Selecting the preferred sheen

The clear Polyx-Oil Original range offers several sheen levels:

  • 3011 Gloss: a clearly reflective glossy finish

  • 3032 Satin: warm, visible but controlled reflection

  • 3065 Semi-Matt: quieter and less reflective than 3032

  • 3062 Matt: minimal visible shine

Satin is frequently chosen for living areas because it highlights the character of the wood without creating the pronounced reflection associated with a gloss finish.

Preparing the surface

The timber must be clean, dry and either untreated or completely sanded back. Existing lacquer, paint and other closed finishes must be removed in full.

Inspect the floor for damage, adhesive residue and open joints. Complete all repairs before the final sanding stage. Sand the entire area consistently, as differences in sanding can remain visible after oiling.

For wooden flooring, a final sanding grade around P120–P150 can be used as a practical guideline. Remove all sanding dust thoroughly with a suitable vacuum cleaner.

Wood moisture must not exceed 18%. Apply the product at a normal room temperature and maintain good ventilation during application and drying.

Applying with the correct tools

Stir Polyx-Oil thoroughly before and during use. It is supplied ready for application and must not be diluted.

Apply the first coat very thinly in the direction of the grain. For the best control, use the specialist rollers, oil applicators and brushes shown as related products at the bottom of this page.

These tools are selected to distribute a small quantity of oil evenly. An unsuitable roller may hold or release too much material, causing visible lines, differences in sheen, tacky patches and extended drying times.

Complete each working section without interruption and inspect the area from several directions. Redistribute wet edges and accumulations immediately. Polyx-Oil performs best when every coat is exceptionally thin and uniform.

Second coat and drying

With good ventilation, allow the first coat to dry for approximately 8–10 hours. Confirm that the entire area feels dry before continuing.

Apply a second extremely thin coat of 3032 and distribute it evenly without leaving wet patches.

After several years, local wear does not automatically mean the entire floor must be sanded back. Following suitable cleaning and assessment, the affected section or complete surface may often be refreshed with one thin maintenance coat.

Coverage and curing

On smooth and correctly prepared timber, estimated coverage is approximately 30 m² per litre per coat.

Actual consumption depends on:

  • Timber species and absorbency

  • Surface texture

  • Final sanding grade

  • Chosen roller or brush

  • Quantity applied

Allow approximately 8–10 hours of drying per coat under normal conditions. Low temperatures, high humidity, insufficient airflow or heavy application will extend this period.

The finish requires approximately two to three weeks to cure fully. Treat the floor carefully during this period, do not immediately cover it with rugs and remove spilled liquids promptly.

Dark and tropical timber

On dark or extractive-rich species, 3032 may penetrate or dry differently. Examples include Wenge, Merbau and Jatoba.

Always carry out a trial application. A thinner product such as Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin 1101 may be more suitable for certain tropical species.

Cleaning and periodic care

Regularly remove sand and loose dirt with a soft broom or vacuum cleaner. Use our Eco Multi Cleaner for normal weekly cleaning and only clean a wooden floor with a well-wrung, damp mop.

Use Wisch-Fix as supplementary care when the existing oil-and-wax finish requires conditioning. Osmo Liquid Maintenance Wax 3029 can be used on local dull or lightly worn areas.

Do not wait until the timber has become completely exposed. Timely maintenance is easier and can prevent the need to sand the complete floor again.

Safe disposal of used cloths and pads

Cloths, pads and other absorbent materials containing liquid oil can generate heat and ignite. After use, spread these materials out completely and allow them to dry in a safe location, or store them in a sealed metal container in accordance with the applicable safety instructions.

Always read the current product label, technical information and safety information before use. Keep out of reach of children.
