Osmo Hardener 6632 for Polyx-Oil Express

Osmo Hardener 6632 is a professional clear additive developed exclusively for Osmo Polyx-Oil Express. It accelerates chemical drying, allowing the treated surface to be recoated considerably sooner.

One 150 ml container is matched to one 2.5-litre container of Osmo Polyx-Oil Express. When mixing smaller quantities, add six per cent hardener by volume.

Important: Osmo 6632 must only be added to Osmo Polyx-Oil Express. Do not use it with Polyx-Oil Original, Rapid, Anti-Slip, TopOil, Maintenance Oil or any other oil or wax product.

What does Hardener 6632 do?

Without hardener, the clear Express finishes normally dry in approximately 2–3 hours. Adding Hardener 6632 reduces this drying time to approximately 1–2 hours under normal conditions.

With White Express 3340, drying is reduced from approximately 6–8 hours to around three hours.

The additive accelerates drying but does not automatically increase the final hardness of the finish. The treated surface still requires approximately two to three weeks to cure completely.

For professional use only

Osmo Hardener 6632 contains reactive polyisocyanate-based ingredients. The official safety information identifies it for professional and industrial coating applications and advises against household DIY use.

The user must understand the safe mixing and application of two-component coating products and the necessary protective measures.

Use only:

• In a very well-ventilated area

• While wearing suitable protective gloves

• With suitable eye protection

• Away from flames, sparks and ignition sources

• In accordance with the current safety data sheet

Mixing ratio

For one complete container, use:

• 2.5 litres Osmo Polyx-Oil Express

• 150 ml Osmo Hardener 6632

Add the complete hardener container to the Express and mix extremely thoroughly until both components form a homogeneous mixture.

For a smaller quantity, mix separately in a clean container:

• 94 parts by volume Polyx-Oil Express

• 6 parts by volume Hardener 6632

Example:

• 500 ml Polyx-Oil Express

• 30 ml Hardener 6632

Measure both components accurately. Too much or too little hardener can adversely affect drying and application.

Working time after mixing

The chemical reaction begins immediately after the hardener is added.

The Dutch product information states a total pot life of approximately 60 minutes. However, never mix more material than can confidently be applied within approximately 45 minutes.

Remember:

• Higher temperatures can shorten the working time

• Mixed material can become warmer and thicker during reaction

• Thickened material can no longer be applied reliably

• Never combine old and freshly mixed material

• Never pour mixed material back into the original Express container

• Mixed leftovers cannot be stored or reused

Application

Surface preparation and application of Polyx-Oil Express remain unchanged after adding the hardener.

Apply the mixed finish extremely thinly and evenly in the direction of the wood grain. Use one of our professional microfibre rollers, flooring brushes or specialist brushes shown with the related products below.

Spread the Express thoroughly within a few minutes. Avoid excessive application, puddles and overlaps. Because the working time is short, prepare the complete project before mixing.

Before mixing, ensure:

• The timber is completely sanded and dust-free

• All rollers and brushes are ready

• Trays and measuring containers are prepared

• The working area is clear and accessible

• Good ventilation is available

• Sufficient personnel are present for larger floors

Drying times with Hardener 6632

Under normal conditions with sufficient ventilation:

• Express 3332 Clear Satin: approximately 1–2 hours

• Express 3362 Clear Matt: approximately 1–2 hours

• Express 3340 White Satin: approximately three hours

Low temperatures, high humidity, inadequate ventilation and excessive application extend drying time.

Always confirm that the surface is completely dry and stable before applying another coat.

Extractive-rich timber

Polyx-Oil Express combined with Hardener 6632 can be used on certain dark and extractive-rich timbers, including meranti, wenge and merbau.

The hardener supports more reliable drying on timber containing natural oils and extractives that can delay normal drying.

This does not make every tropical timber automatically suitable. Always complete a test area using the full proposed finish system.

Express coverage remains unchanged

Adding Hardener 6632 does not change the theoretical coverage of Polyx-Oil Express.

One litre of Express still covers approximately 24 m² of smooth, sanded timber with one thin coat. Do not apply a heavier coat simply because hardener has been added.

Storage

An unopened container of Osmo Hardener 6632 can be stored for at least one year when kept dry and correctly sealed.

Close an opened container immediately and carefully. Protect it from moisture, heat and direct sunlight.

Mixed Polyx-Oil Express and hardener cannot be stored or reused.

Osmo Hardener 6632 is a flammable liquid and vapour. It contains isocyanates and may cause an allergic skin reaction or respiratory irritation.

• Keep out of the reach of children

• Do not smoke during application

• Keep away from heat, sparks and flames

• Do not breathe vapours, mist or spray

• Wear protective gloves

• Use only outside or in a very well-ventilated area

• Move an affected person to fresh air after inhalation

• Contact a doctor or poison centre if symptoms occur

• Keep the container or label available when seeking medical advice
