Product description

Osmo Concrete Oil 610 for interior mineral surfaces

Osmo Concrete Oil 610 is a clear satin oil and wax impregnation for absorbent mineral surfaces indoors. It combines natural plant oils and waxes and penetrates the pores of the substrate without forming a closed film on the surface.

The treatment makes the surface water and dirt repellent and less susceptible to staining. It can also significantly reduce loose dust on concrete and screed surfaces.

The oil enhances the natural colour of the substrate and creates a permanent wet-look effect. Always carry out a representative trial application first.

Suitable applications

Osmo Concrete Oil 610 is suitable for absorbent:

  • Interior concrete floors

  • Polished or sanded concrete

  • Exposed concrete

  • Cement-based screed

  • Artificial stone

  • Microporous natural stone

  • Unglazed tiles

  • Microcement, provided that the particular composition is sufficiently absorbent and compatible

  • Concrete and stone wall cladding

  • Kitchen and bathroom floors

  • Stone or concrete tabletops

  • Window sills

  • Mineral kitchen worktops

The substrate must be sufficiently porous to absorb the oil evenly. Always carry out a trial application on unfamiliar materials.

Not suitable for exterior applications

Osmo Concrete Oil 610 is designed for interior use.

For absorbent concrete, terracotta or natural stone outdoors, use Osmo Stone and Terracotta Oil 620.

Not suitable for every tile or stone

Non-absorbent surfaces cannot be impregnated with Concrete Oil. The product is therefore unsuitable for:

  • Glass

  • Glazed tiles

  • Non-absorbent ceramic tiles

  • Completely sealed or impermeable surfaces

  • Plastics and other solvent-sensitive materials

  • Substrates into which the oil cannot penetrate

Test absorption by placing a small amount of water on an inconspicuous area. If the water remains as a bead instead of soaking into the surface, the substrate is probably insufficiently absorbent.

This water test is only an initial indication. Always prepare a trial area with the actual Concrete Oil as well.

Benefits of Osmo Concrete Oil 610

  • Clear satin appearance

  • Combination of natural plant oils and waxes

  • For absorbent interior mineral surfaces

  • Penetrates the pores of the substrate

  • Does not form a closed surface film

  • Makes surfaces water and dirt repellent

  • Reduces susceptibility to staining

  • Reduces dust formation on concrete and screed

  • Easy to maintain locally

  • Approximately 50 m² coverage per litre with one coat on a smooth surface

  • Approximately 8–10 hours drying time per coat

  • Available in 0.75 and 2.5 litre containers

Permanent wet-look effect

Although Concrete Oil 610 is clear, it does not leave the original appearance completely unchanged. The oil enhances the existing colour and creates a permanent wet-look effect.

White and very light-coloured stone or concrete may develop a slight yellow tint after treatment. On dark or porous substrates, the colour enhancement may be considerably more visible.

Always prepare a representative trial area and assess the result only after the oil has dried completely.

Acid-sensitive natural stone

Treatment does not change the natural acid sensitivity of the stone. Marble, limestone and other acid-sensitive materials may still be affected by:

  • Vinegar

  • Lemon juice

  • Wine

  • Descaling products

  • Acidic bathroom cleaners

Only use cleaning products suitable for the particular type of stone.

Surface preparation

The substrate must be:

  • Sufficiently absorbent

  • Completely clean and dry

  • Free from dust, grease and dirt

  • Free from old wax, oil and sealer residues

  • Free from soap and cleaning product residues

  • Frost-free

  • Fully cured

New concrete, cement-based screed, tile adhesives and grout must be fully cured and free from construction moisture. The required curing and drying time depends on the material, thickness and climatic conditions. Always follow the substrate manufacturer’s instructions.

Protect plastic, acrylic glass and other solvent-sensitive materials.

Osmo Concrete Oil is ready to use and must not be diluted. Stir thoroughly before and during application.

Applying Osmo Concrete Oil 610

Apply the product very thinly and evenly with a suitable microfibre roller, flat brush, floor brush or oil application fleece.

For the best result, use the specialist rollers, brushes, paint trays and other application materials shown among the related products below. These tools have been selected to distribute the oil in a controlled, thin layer.

Work in small, manageable sections.

Immediately remove all excess oil, pooling and streaks with a white pad or a clean lint-free cotton cloth. The liquid oil must penetrate the substrate completely. No visible or wet layer may remain on the surface.

On larger floors, collect excess oil with a suitable rubber squeegee. Afterwards, buff the surface with a single-disc machine or Osmo FloorXcenter fitted with a white pad.

Number of coats and drying time

Apply two very thin coats to an untreated surface.

Allow the first coat to dry for approximately 8–10 hours under normal conditions. Ensure good ventilation while drying. Apply the second coat equally thinly and remove all excess oil again.

Low temperatures, high humidity, insufficient ventilation or excessive application may significantly extend the drying time.

When maintaining a surface previously treated with Concrete Oil, one thin coat on a completely clean and dry surface is normally sufficient.

Coverage

One litre of Osmo Concrete Oil 610 covers approximately 50 m² with one very thin coat on a smooth, evenly absorbent surface.

Actual coverage is strongly influenced by the substrate:

  • Dense or polished materials normally absorb less oil.

  • Porous concrete, cement screed and split-faced stone may absorb considerably more.

  • Unevenly absorbent substrates may produce variations in colour or sheen.

Always determine actual consumption by preparing a trial area.

Slip resistance

Treatment may change the original slip resistance of the floor. Always prepare a trial area on floors, steps, bathrooms and other surfaces where slipping may present a risk.

Where additional slip resistance is required, Osmo states that a suitable surface may be finished with Osmo Polyx-Oil Anti-Slip R9 or R11 instead of the second coat of Concrete Oil.

View Osmo Polyx-Oil Anti-Slip 3088 R9 and 3089 R11. Test the complete coating system first to confirm suitability for the particular substrate and application.

Cleaning and maintenance

Regularly remove dust and loose dirt with a soft dust mop or vacuum cleaner.

For regular damp cleaning, use a mild pH-neutral cleaner. Our Eco Multi Cleaner can be used on suitable surfaces. Clean with as little moisture as possible and do not allow liquid to remain on the surface.

Do not use aggressive degreasers, abrasive products, acidic cleaners or strongly alkaline all-purpose cleaners. These products may damage the protective oil and wax impregnation.

Apply a new, very thin maintenance coat of Concrete Oil when the water and dirt-repellent performance visibly diminishes. Thoroughly clean the surface and allow it to dry completely first.

Worktops and direct food contact

Osmo lists Concrete Oil as suitable for mineral table and kitchen worktops. However, the official product information does not state a separate certification for direct food contact.

Always use a chopping board for direct food preparation and do not leave unpackaged food on the treated surface for extended periods.

Cleaning tools and storage

Clean rollers, brushes and other tools immediately after use with Osmo Brush Cleaner and Thinner.

The product can be stored for five years or longer in its closed original container. If it has become thickened by frost, allow it to return to room temperature for at least 24 hours before use.

Safety information

Keep out of reach of children. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. Ensure good ventilation during application and drying.

Cloths and pads saturated with liquid oil may generate heat and ignite spontaneously. Lay used materials flat outdoors to dry completely or place them immediately in a suitable airtight metal container.
