Osmo Wood Protector 4006
Osmo Wood Protector 4006 is a clear, microporous wax impregnation for timber requiring additional protection against moisture. It is based on natural oils and waxes and contains no biocides or preservatives.
The impregnation penetrates the timber and makes it highly water-repellent while retaining its microporous structure. This allows the wood to continue regulating moisture. It is especially suitable for wooden surfaces in bathrooms and other moisture-prone interior areas.
Wood Protector 4006 is a preparatory impregnation and not a standalone final finish. A suitable Osmo top coat must therefore be applied within one week.
Suitable applications
Osmo Wood Protector 4006 can be used for:
-
Timber in bathrooms and other moisture-prone rooms
-
Wooden flooring made from species susceptible to blue stain, such as pine
-
Wooden wall and ceiling panelling
-
Interior doors and window frames
-
Furniture and other interior wooden components
-
Absorbent timber beneath a suitable Osmo final finish
-
Selected exterior applications requiring a biocide-free impregnation, such as sandboxes and wooden play equipment
Always carry out a trial application first. Although the product is clear, its oil content can deepen the natural colour and grain of the timber, producing a slight permanent wet effect.

Surface preparation
The timber must be clean, dry, frost-free and free from grease, dust and loose material. Its moisture content should not exceed approximately 20%.
Completely remove old paints, lacquers and other closed-film finishes. Existing microporous finishes must be cleaned thoroughly. Sand in the direction of the grain where required and remove all sanding dust.
On unfamiliar timber, adhesives, sealants or existing finishes, always test adhesion and the final colour on a small inconspicuous area first.
Applying Osmo Wood Protector 4006
Stir the product thoroughly before use. Osmo Wood Protector 4006 is ready to use and must not be diluted.
Apply one generous, even coat using a suitable professional brush or microfibre roller. Where possible, treat all sides of the timber, including end grain, joints and other areas particularly exposed to moisture.
For the best result, use our professional brushes, rollers and application materials shown as related products below this page. Suitable tools help apply the required amount evenly and reduce the risk of an irregular finish.
For dipping applications, immerse the timber for approximately two minutes. Remove surplus material from edges, grooves and joints. Ensure good ventilation during application and drying.
Drying and final finish
Allow approximately 24–36 hours to dry under normal conditions. Lower temperatures, insufficient ventilation or high humidity can considerably extend the drying time.
Osmo Wood Protector 4006 must not be left as the final surface finish. Apply a suitable Osmo top coat within one week, such as:
-
Osmo Polyx-Oil for wooden floors
-
Osmo Wood Wax Finish for furniture, walls and ceilings
-
Osmo Clear Wax for suitable wood species
-
Osmo Door-Oil for suitable doors and joinery
-
Osmo TopOil for wooden worktops and furniture
Select the final finish according to the application, timber species and desired appearance. Oil- and wax-based finishes will usually deepen the natural colour of the wood.
Because Wood Protector is highly water-repellent, special care is required before applying a water-based finishing product. Always follow the current technical information for both products and observe the specified drying period.
Coverage
Apply approximately 120–160 ml per m². One litre covers approximately 6–8.4 m² of smooth, planed or sanded timber with one coat.
Rough, weathered or highly absorbent timber may require considerably more product. For larger projects, prepare a trial area to determine the actual consumption.
Cleaning the tools
Clean brushes and rollers immediately after use with a suitable Osmo Brush Cleaner and Thinner. Because oil-soaked cloths may self-ignite, spread them out completely to dry or store them in a sealed metal container after use.
