Osmo Polyx-Oil Anti-Slip 3088 and 3089
Osmo Polyx-Oil Anti-Slip is a clear interior finish for wooden floors requiring increased slip resistance. Its combination of natural oils and waxes protects the timber against moisture, dirt and everyday wear while retaining the visible grain and natural appearance of the wood.
Choose the required version above:
-
Osmo 3088 Anti-Slip: clear semi-matt with R9 slip resistance
-
Osmo 3089 Anti-Slip Extra: clear satin with a stronger textured effect and R11 slip resistance
The 3088 has a relatively smooth feel while providing additional grip. The 3089 contains special anti-slip particles that create a more noticeable texture and much stronger surface grip after drying.
Choosing between R9 and R11
Osmo 3088 Anti-Slip R9
Choose 3088 when additional grip is required without creating an excessively textured surface. It is suitable for homes, wooden stairs, offices, shops and normally used commercial interiors.
Osmo 3089 Anti-Slip Extra R11
Choose 3089 when significantly greater slip resistance is required. It is particularly suitable for wooden stairs, sloping timber surfaces, stages, public interiors and heavily used commercial wooden floors.
An anti-slip finish can reduce the risk of slipping but cannot make a floor completely slip-proof in every situation. Water, oil, dust, unsuitable cleaning products and loose debris continue to affect floor safety.

Surface preparation
The wood must be clean, dry, frost-free and free from dust, grease, wax and sealed coatings. The moisture content of the timber must not exceed 18%.
Completely remove old paint and lacquer coatings. Thoroughly clean existing microporous oil finishes. Fill cracks, joints or damaged areas with a suitable wood filler where required.
Sand normal wooden flooring evenly, finishing at approximately P100–P120. Depending on its intended use and required grip, stage flooring can be finished more coarsely at approximately P60–P100.
Remove all sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner and always complete a representative test area before treating the entire floor.
Applying Osmo Anti-Slip
Stir thoroughly before and during application. This is particularly important with 3089 because its anti-slip particles must remain evenly distributed throughout the product.
Apply very thinly and evenly in the direction of the wood grain. Use one of our suitable microfibre rollers, flooring brushes or professional brushes shown with the related application products on this page.
Allow the first coat to dry for approximately 8–10 hours with good ventilation. Apply a second very thin coat in the same manner.
For renovation of a correctly oiled existing surface, one thin maintenance coat is normally sufficient. However, one maintenance coat does not automatically restore the complete tested R9 or R11 classification.
Do not mechanically buff the finish
Osmo Polyx-Oil Anti-Slip must not be levelled or buffed with a single-disc floor machine after application. Mechanical buffing can distribute the anti-slip particles unevenly and reduce the intended slip resistance.
Use a suitable microfibre roller, flooring brush or hand brush and spread the product thinly and evenly during application.
Using Anti-Slip over a coloured finish
Osmo Anti-Slip can be used as a clear topcoat over a compatible coloured Osmo finish. The complete application must remain within a total amount of approximately 70–80 ml per m².
When only one Anti-Slip coat is applied over a coloured base finish, the complete tested R9 or R11 classification cannot be assumed without further assessment.
Always create a complete sample of the proposed coating system before treating the main floor.
Dark and extractive-rich hardwoods
Dark, oily or extractive-rich hardwoods such as wenge, merbau and jatoba may absorb or dry differently.
A compatible thin base finish may be required on these timbers. Because this base finish is not itself classified as anti-slip, always complete a test area and obtain specialist advice when a formally certified slip resistance is required.
Drying and curing
Under normal conditions, allow approximately 8–10 hours of drying time for each coat. Provide good ventilation throughout the drying process.
Low temperatures, high humidity, inadequate ventilation and excessive application will extend the drying time.
The finish takes approximately two to three weeks to cure completely. Treat the floor carefully during this period and avoid covering it with rugs, plastic sheeting or other non-breathable materials.
Coverage
One litre of Osmo Polyx-Oil Anti-Slip covers approximately 24 m² with one thin coat. Actual coverage depends on the timber species, absorption, surface texture and application method.
The recommended application amount is approximately 35–40 ml per m² for each coat. Excess product can delay drying and adversely affect the anti-slip performance.
Cleaning and maintenance
Regularly remove sand and loose dirt with a soft broom, dust mop or vacuum cleaner. Use Eco Multi Cleaner for normal weekly hygienic cleaning and always use a well-wrung mop. Never allow puddles to remain on the wooden floor.
Wisch-Fix can be used separately when the existing oil and wax finish requires additional care. It should not replace normal hygienic cleaning.
For occasional maintenance of a 3088 R9 surface, Osmo Anti-Slip Maintenance Oil 3098 can be applied. To restore the stronger texture of an R11 surface, reapply Osmo 3089 when retention of the R11 effect is required.
